Amsterdam, Holland - Boat Tours, Van Gogh and Red Lights Disctrict

We celebrated and welcomed the new year of 2012 in Amsterdam, Holland. It was a short trip and it rained almost non-stop. Here are my notes from the trip.

Take a canal boat tour, especially if it's raining and walking around on foot is not very pleasant. It's a very nice tour, you get to see most of central Amsterdam and learn a thing or two. (For example, did you know that when you move into a new flat or house, most of the furniture goes in through the windows? Yup. That's why they have big hook type of fixtures on the top of each building. Call me silly, but I found this fact quite interesting!)

Do go to Van Gogh Museum as it's a very nice museum. They have an immense amount of Van Gogh's works, and they are all organized in a very neat chronological order with his biography written in big letters (which is very important for catching my attention for sure) so that you can actually understand what was motivating him, inspiring him in each period of artistic life.

Red lights district - I would say is a must. It really makes you feel like you've suddenly stepped into a parallel universe, where different laws and rules apply. To be frank, I am pro legalizing prostitution. At least this way they pay taxes. The girls overall were quite happy looking and smiling at all the silly tourists like myself. By the way, do not, and I mean, do NOT even try to take pictures in red lights district. Hide your camera away or you may lose it.
